Yes. The HATS OFF FOR VETERANS INC scholarship is only available to honorably discharged Veterans pursuing their first undergraduate degree. Our organization recognizes a Veteran as someone who is defined as a “person who served in the active military, naval, air, or space service, and who was honorably discharged from duty." A DD214 must be submitted with all applications.
If you are given an award for a HATS OFF FOR VETERANS INC scholarship, you are eligible to apply again. There are no guarantees you will receive the award, but we encourage you to apply.
The purpose of the HATS OFF FOR VETERANS INC Scholarship is to help the Veteran to offset some of the costs due to tuition, school supplies, and books. The Hazlewood Act is a State of Texas benefit that provides qualified Veterans, spouses, and dependent children with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition exemption, including most fee charges, at public institutions of higher education in Texas. However, this does NOT include living expenses, books, supply fees, or living costs. This is why the HOFV mission is very important. We strive to raise funds to help Veterans cover these additional costs that are not covered.
The number of scholarships awarded will vary based on funding that is available in that particular scholarship year. Visit our Scholarship page to see how many awards will be given for the current year. The goal is to grow this program in order to increase the number of awards given. Each award will be in the amount of $2,000 ($1,000 per semester). The MSG JQ Scholarship is in the amount of $1,000 and awarded all at once. This particular scholarship for incoming Freshman only.
The Scholarship Application opens every February 1st and closes March 30th. Please note these dates on your calendar or subscribe to our website. For more information, visit the Scholarship page.
The money (check) will not be released until one month from the first day of school to ensure the veteran is still registered and attending. There are no exceptions to this rule. Registration will be confirmed before a check is released through the Registrar's Office at their school.
